DAY FOUR [20090723]: Tokyo Station + DAWN OF ANOMIE Live Report


Ahh. Cousin and I planned to visit Akihabara but we decided to skip it! lol last minute planned to visit Tokyo Station instead cos of all the different cartoon character shops! There was a whole cluster of them. So cousin and I planned to just do some light walking and shopping before the live in the evening. Lazy day la basically.



Jump TV Shop! they are known for screening Bleach, Naruto and other anime in Japan! I got some Bleach merch here. Found chibi Gin and Byakuya pins ahhhhhhhhh so kawaii! love it. heehehhehe. got some stuff for my brothers too. I found it so cute they've got anime specific Gachapon (or Gachagacha, Reita calls it lol) there! eheheh. i didn't try one out though =/

There was also a Rilakkuma Store! Ahhhhhhh! SO CUTE! i got myself a Rilakkuma!!! now it's hanging on my burberry bag. Ehehe. i love it! I also got some other Rilakkuma stuff back for friends.

Got one of those Shinkansen sets home to eat as lunch. This one's hamburger steak with demi-glaze sauce and omu rice. It's super tasty! damn delicious. less than a thousand yen too. Awesome!

We went back to Ameyoko Street in our neighbourhood to grab some stuff we've decided to buy. Got myself perfume and tea leaves there. So yeah, light shopping today.


We rested for maybe an hour or two, and prepared to get ourselves to Akasaka Blitz. Akasaka felt like a really really modern, rich cosmopolitan place. My cousin filled in info to let me know that it's very near the area where all the rich ppl are. Ahh. i see.

This photo's taken while queuing to enter the livehouse. It was quite a crowd, but the queuing, as how we experienced with the gazette live, is quite a procedure. We just waited around at our respective areas. When we entered, cousin and I checked out the live goods. Oh man! the towel was sold out! it was pretty!!! well anyway we got the pamphlet and handphone straps. Didn't get any photosets.

The live was quite an experience for us. We discovered many things about Matenrou as a band. Some were their new strengths, some were flaws we will never notice if we only listen to their mp3s. Regardless, they have alot of potential in them and it was an enjoyable live. I was captivated by Sono's voice! it's unique, and it's soooooo beautiful. Even when he speaks normally, it's mesmerizing! it's like i can listen to him speak all day... ahh. Of course, the ballads like Honshitsu and Tenjou were beaaaaautiful! I was quite high about ダチュラ Dachura, 輝ける世界 Kagayakeru Sekai and Last Game also! Encore1 was extremely good as well!

But i did find that Sono lacked abit of stamina? halfway through the first half of the main concert, i found that the music started to shadow his voice... and he got more and more breathless. That's what i felt. The setlist also seemed abit delibrately arranged to allow him to have abit of rest in the middle. I don't know much about vocal training or anything... but that this is how i felt. After the individual solos he sounded better again.


Anyway, i found a new love after the live *___* It's 耀　(You) the bassist! When i first saw Matenrou's image, i was like ahhh he's so pretty! But when i listened to their album Anomie, i really didn't notice his bass playing, except the openings the songs offered for him. So i didn't really think much of him... But during the live. Oh.my.god. He's AMAZING. and i realised he covered and backed up the guitar alot! I was like, oh man! this bassist is totally underrated! There were many parts where cousin and I thought were played by the guitar, but it turned out to be You playing it! we were pleasantly surprised.


This is from their bonus DVD from their album, Anomie. It's You practising on his bass in the hotel room. Yes, he plays a 5-string bass, not your typical 4-string. And ahhhhhh!!!!

Yuu's drum solo was amazingly good as well. My cousin's new found love is Yuu. lol! the gazette was kai, now it's yuu. She's officially into drums. HAHAHA! tsk tsk tsk. But yeah Yuu was really skillful. Throughout the whole live i was staring at Sono, You and Yuu. Oh! You and Sono make a cute pairing... Hehehe. they were really cute during the lives, when Sono offers You buddy hugs and when i caught You looking at the side of the stage asking Sono to hurry come out for the encore. Super kawaii! They were really nice to the fans too. You and Anzi constantly offered tons of waves and smiles and grins at the audience right in front of them while Sono spoke during MCs. They also happily skipped to each other's positions at the other end of the stage during songs and back to their own to offer the other side of the audience some love too. So cute! skipping... LOL. totally child-like. Aww!

They threw quite a number of stuff too. Yuu, being a drummer, threw a few drumsticks. Anzi was just basically throwing all the guitar picks he has on him - i totally lost count of how many picks he threw. it was just never ending. lol. The band members constantly drank water from bottles and they started throwing the bottles too. At the end of it it was like they were opening new bottles and just drinking a mouthful, before closing it up and throwing it to the audience. Totally drinking for the sake of throwing lol but it was really really nice of them.

Well I did find as a band overall, Matenrou needs some sort of balance. During the live anzi's guitar was straining sometimes it hurt my ears, while at times it was shadowed by Ayame's keyboards and i can literally pass it off as plain noise - to put it bluntly. Yuu despite being skillfull, i found his drums too powerful that it drowned out the bass here and there at times. But individually, they are really an amazing bunch. I think they just need more experience and give them time to grow. They'll be damn popular and good nxt time. It's like they're one of the best of the next vkei generation. Cousin and I both agreed we are very interested in their future progress. They are unique and have alot more to offer.

Lastly, of course you can't compare the GazettE's live to Matenrou's side by side - gazette's seasoned and experienced and they've found their balance. Their live is top notch and unbeatable. But for a band of 2 years, i thought Matenrou was really good. They've got an immense amount potential in them. It's enjoyable, altho i wasn't as high in their live as gazette's. I will def go for their live again. It's really lovely to watch a band grow.

I also grabbed some of the ribbons back home for memory sake. those ribbons were popped during the encore. Ahaha. They gave fans a pleasant surprise by announcing the confirmation of more oneman lives, and also a twoman live tour (who's the other band is still in secret).

I hope I gave a fair and rather objective opinion in this live report... Yup, sorry for such a lousy live report, in terms of detail. but i'm drained. This post is clearly less wordy than the other 3 previous ones i posted. But i really cannot think straight now... Ugh. Well i hope i still managed to help fill some imagination in you guys! ^^
